If you consider yourself a music lover, audiophile or just someone on the hunt for your next music podcast, well look no further– NPR’s All Songs Considered has you covered. Since its first release in 2000, All Songs Considered has been NPR’s flagship podcast for what’s latest in the music scene: host Robin Hilton and the family at NPR Music bring in a slurry of guests throughout the week to discuss new music, artist interviews, and deep conversations that cover what’s latest and best over the years.
The podcast’s regular tradition of ‘New Music Fridays’ combines with up to thrice-weekly coverage on current events in music, and the latest of must-listens across a wide range of genres and cultures. Past episodes have covered the Oscars, Black History Month as celebrated through music, and a list of ‘track of the year’ prospects. I listened to February 28th’s “New Music Friday: The best albums out Feb. 28,” an episode to usher in the new month of March.
This episode brings in NPR Music’s Stephen Thompson and KCRW’s Travis Holcombe to present a jam-packed episode to discuss the best albums to hit streaming platforms while you were sleeping. They sweep through talking points with a polished rhythm: they introduce an artist’s work, and listen to a brief segment before they discuss and move on to the next. They note their thoughts on the lyrics, the greater message of the album, and analyze the overall sonic qualities of the artist’s work.
Personally, I deeply enjoy paying All Songs Considered a visit every week to listen to New Music Fridays. I believe that every genre has something to offer, and the great people at NPR Music never fail to find the best and brightest to emerge in the industry.
