WWCSD: Declining MSTEP test scores for 3rd-graders across district.

Wayne-Westland Community School District 3rd-grade MSTEP test scores have declined over the past several years. From 2014-2015 to 2022-2023 you see a 41% decrease in test scores. The district was at its lowest point in 2020-2021 at 15.2% but has increased to 20.8%. The state test scores average is 45%.

There is only one school in the district that has higher numbers than the other schools. That school is Walker-Winter Elementary school. From 2017 to 2019, their 3rd-grade MSTEP test scores averaged 55.8%, compared to the state at 46.2%.

The Michigan Student Test of Educational Progress, or M-STEP, is a 21st Century computer-based assessment designed to gauge how well students are mastering state standards. These standards, developed for educators by educators, broadly outline what students should know and be able to do in order to be prepared to enter the workplace, career education training, and college.
