As we close this semester’s journey in our multimedia journalism class, I reflect on the engaging and dynamic experiences that have shaped my understanding and skills in reporting and data analysis. My focused school district was on West Bloomfield, where I had the opportunity to dive deep into the local issues, events, and the data surrounded what makes this school district different.
Throughout the semester, I collected and analyzed data from various sources, which allowed me to create a detailed narrative of West Bloomfield school district’s characteristics and challenges. For example, by embedding interactive maps and social media posts in my blog posts, readers could visually connect with the data on school district performances or demographic shifts, enhancing the narrative with a digital perspective.
This semester has been immensely instructive, revealing the power of multimedia journalism in telling compelling, data-driven stories. As I present my final project—a comprehensive timeline that includes the my work—I am reminded of the essential role journalists play in leaving their digital footprints. This class didn’t just teach me about journalism; it immersed me in its practice, challenging me to think critically and creatively about how to convey information in an increasingly digital world.
