The Return of the Trump

Before his presidency began, Donald Trump told Americans that he would make immediate changes to the country. To his credit, on his first day, he signed 26 executive orders that tackled topics such as immigration issues and DEI programs across the country.

He also preached to Americans that his plan to issue tariffs to many of our trade partners would create an economic boom within the country, even calling it the “golden age.” Trump is now asking Americans for patience as his tariff idea will take time for Americans to reap its benefits.

The tariffs will officially go into effect on April 2nd, which he has called “Liberation Day.” Beyond the tariffs, the country’s finances have also been an issue of focus with the executive orders in place.

The current administration has made it their business to slash government spending, dismantling many federal jobs across the country. The most recent agency targeted by the Trump administration is the Department of Education, which he plans on eliminating.

Recent polls show that the move is a vastly unpopular one. While many Americans do have their eyes on the topic of the Department of Education, many are also focused on Elon Musk, the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). He has even caught the ire of comedian Bill Burr who repeatedly referred to Musk as a nerd on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

Musk, who is focused on making the government more efficient, is going after federally charted corporations such as Amtrack, proposing to privatize it. The criticism for Musk doesn’t just stem from his new position of gauging government efficiency but how he can also be linked to a company such as The Boring Company, which he proposes could connect a transit system from America to Europe.

This potentially creates a conflict of interest and fans the idea of America being sold to corporate billionaires. Musk’s role has created tension within the country, and his Tesla lots have been under attack by recent protesters.

The Trump administration has called these attacks, acts of domestic terrorism and floated the idea of those caught spending time in El Salvador prison.

Regardless of what may or may not occur during the Trump presidency, one thing is clear. There is a new sheriff in town.
