This was my first semester at a university so I was nervous about the structure of my classes. I was surprised that the first couple of assignments were about getting accustomed to the class and introducing ourselves but it calmed me down because I was fearful of a more aggressive start! My multimedia journalism class supported me with meeting some professional and personal goals in ways I didn’t expect. I have three things I want to highlight about my growth in the class.
First, I had strong concerns with being able to navigate large amounts of information because it can make me extremely anxious. I set a goal for myself to learn some skills on how to better do that. Utilizing mischooldata.org and completing the truth and accuracy assignment helped with this. I feel more confident in searching for information from credible sources and interpreting that information now!
Second, the discussion topics and guest speakers motivated me to have a curious mind. It was transformative to meet and engage with like-minded peers and professionals. As a result, I have a newfound passion for what journalism can do for the things I care about. In fact, I shared this excitement with my other professors.
Third, the practice with styling blog posts was important because it was a goal of mine to learn how to tell stories in unique formats. After completing the curation assignment specifically, I felt like my abilities in storytelling leveled up by several degrees because it gave me an introduction into writing objectively from a journalistic lens which will be instrumental in making connections though truthful storytelling.
Overall, I am very happy with with the work I did this over the past few months. I also want to thank Professor Hanus for her resilience and outstanding support this semester! Below is a timeline of some of my favorite moments from this class. Hope you enjoy!
