The Michigan Student exam of Educational Progress, also known as the “M-STEP,” is a standardized exam administered in the state of Michigan. Depending on the grade level, it evaluates students’ abilities in academic subjects including Social Studies, Science, Math, and English Language Arts.
Looking specifically into the Wayne-Westland Community Schools District, we can see a steep decline in the percent met for the math portion of the M-STEP for all students in the district. Across the entirety of the district, the data shows an approximate 15% fall from the 2014-15 school year to the 2022-23 school year.
Comparing this years percentage from Wayne-Westland to the Statewide percentage, Statewide was approximately 43%, while Wayne-Westland’s district percentage was only 20.8%.
