Some Farmington Elementary Schools Fall Behind in MSTEP Math

Over the past decade, Farmington Public Schools have seen some ups and downs in third-grade math MSTEP scores, with a few schools showing steady progress while others experienced sharp declines. According to statewide data, just a handful of Farmington elementaries matched or exceeded Michigan’s average scores in recent years.

In the most recent year of data (2023–2024), several schools hovered in the mid-40% range, while West Bloomfield continued to stand out as one of the strongest performers, often reaching above 70% in earlier years. In contrast, schools like Whitman Elementary and Woodland Elementary scored significantly lower than both the districtwide and state averages in multiple years.

The MSTEP is a statewide assessment administered annually to Michigan public school students in several subjects. The third-grade math MSTEP measures foundational skills critical to student success in future math coursework.
