Overall, this Multimedia Journalism course has been so fun and informative.
I’ve learned so much throughout the last fifteen weeks of this semester and especially in this specific class.
A few of my favorite areas that we covered were; writing with numbers, discussing our favorite podcasts, and jumping into a school district near us and investigating it further.
I enjoyed writing with numbers because I know a lot of people struggle with this, and this can be very helpful. Something that this reminds me of is people trying to use the correct grammar in instances, yet they can’t. (There, Their, They’re as an example). A lot of people are unaware of when to write “ten” versus “10”.
Being able to discuss our favorite podcasts and bring part of our personal lives into the life inside the classroom was very fun and interesting. I thought that being able to discuss my favorite podcast (Locked On Lions) with the class was a great way to possibly find a connection with another student who is also a big Lions’ fan. I also enjoyed being able to look through my classmates’ favorite podcasts and see what they’re interested in as well.
Last but not least, being able to dig into a Michigan school district. This was very different than what I’m used to and it really brought a new light into my eyes of how school districts work and how they get run. I really enjoyed reaching out to some of the people in the school board, trying to conduct interviews. I enjoyed doing research on the district and figuring out what trends there have been. My school district was Jackson Public Schools, and I really enjoyed doing research on it.
