My Semester Timeline

I finished a number of assignments this semester with the goal of learning more about the local school districts Farmington and Wayne Westland in specifically. One of the first tasks I had to complete after deciding to research the Farmington district was to locate basic data, such as the number of students and the district’s media pages. This made it easier for me to understand how school systems communicate and exchange updates. Listening to a podcast of our choosing was another fun assignment. I chose Payton and Garrett Moreland’s “Murder with My Husband,” a true crime podcast that I thought was both surprising and very entertaining. We were also allowed to write about any podcast, so I choose one that covered the Gaza ceasefire, which was informative and educational.

Analyzing the district’s fourth-grade M-STEP results and creating a bar graph that showed performance over time was one of the more data driven projects. Making the graph was easy, and seeing the results was amazing. A map of Farmington Central High School with important information like its address and student count was also added. We also had to do interviews with members of the Wayne-Westland school system and write an essay based on their answers. This was a special experience since I gained firsthand knowledge from educators. Last but not least, I produced a graph displaying the Farmington district’s third-grade Math M-STEP scores in addition to writing about writer Cathy Young from The Bulwark.
