It’s a Social World: Wayne-Westland Community Schools Takes to Social Media

In a society driven by view and likes, it makes sense for even public schools to leverage the various social media platforms to engage with students, parents and the community.

Wayne-Westland Community Schools (WWCS) is right in the mix of social engagements with their Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and even a YouTube channel. And unlike this author, they maintain a steady presence on most of their platforms.

While their YouTube channel has some variety, they primarily use the channel to engage with the community and highlight things like board meetings. View the March 2024 board meeting.

They also post internet safety alerts and this “60 seconds in Wayne-Westland-Instructional Support for Students.”

The district’s Facebook page is a bit more dynamic. Posts include highlights from their various schools, student highlights, as well as marketing for numerous events. The most recent post highlights the talents of “digital photography and media” students from the district’s William D. Ford Career Technical Center.

And while the preschoolers at Sunshine and Rainbows were enjoying the sights of some exotic animals, the district captured and highlighted the moment. Even if you were not able to attend, they provided a glimpse of the fun the young ones had.

These are only a few of the stories and faces that the district shares on their social media platforms. They keep their sites current and up-to-date as well as engaging. No matter what platform you prefer, you can find some news or events going on in the district.
