Fluctuation of Enrollment in Woodhaven-Brownstown School District

While districts in Michigan seem to be facing the issue of decreasing enrollment rates, the Woodhaven-Brownstown School District is not. Instead, its enrollment rate has increased according to statistics found on mischooldata.org .

The Woodhaven-Brownstown school district has undergone a 10.82% increase from 5,056 students in 2010-2011 to 5,603 students in 2022-2023.

Enrollment was at its peak in 2018-2019 with 5,671 students and at its lowest point in 2011-2012 with 4,957 students.

Woodhaven High School experienced a sharp decline in 2011-2012 from the school year before. The middle and elementary schools seem to have a not so jarring change in enrollment.

In 2019-2020, the year of the COVID 19 outbreak, the district had an enrollment of 5,671 students. In 2020-2021, the year that schools were online, this number decreased to 5,522 students. The next few years, enrollment rates went back up as schools reopened. As mentioned in “Humanising data: Connecting numbers and people” by Sherri Ricchiardi, “The Guardian underscored a major point: “Behind every row in a database, there is a human story.” That message resonates with data journalists today.” This quote proves that there is a story behind every number. It is helpful to consider this when viewing the enrollment rates.
