Flipping the Script: This Class Made Me See Myself Differently

I came into this class thinking it would be a light ride, write a few blogs, turn in some articles, and move on. What I didn’t expect was how much this course would challenge me, not just as a student, but as a communicator and critical thinker. There were days when I was stuck for hours trying to clean up messy data or figure out how to embed something that should’ve been simple. But I pushed through.

When I look at my timeline now, I don’t just see assignments I see the late nights, the trial and error, and the growth. I remember doubting myself while formatting charts in DataWrapper, or learning how to make Timeline JS work just right. I’ve grown from someone who was intimidated by digital tools to someone who now sees them as my allies in storytelling.

This class helped me realize that journalism today is about versatility. It’s not just about writing a good lead it’s about presenting facts creatively, making stories interactive, and making your voice heard across multiple platforms. I’ve found my voice here, and I’ve learned to trust it.

Even when I was frustrated, I never gave up. I revised, I learned, and I improved. That’s what I’m most proud of.
