Throughout this semester, my classmates and I have progressed our skills in journalism in many ways. One way we progressed is by learning how to tell if an article is trustworthy or not. Another way our journalism skills have improved is how we all understand how to embed certain codes as well as give proper credit for images when due. These are all crucial factors in ensuring that you are a vigilant and skillful journalist.
I chose to add certain assignments to my timeline based on how important they are for our progression in the semester. I added “Selection of a School District” because that was the starting point to our semester long research journey. The “Trust in Media” Discussion assignment was important as it opened our eyes and taught us how to filter out “fake news” during our research. The “Student Led Discussions” tab was included because these discussions allowed us to have respectful communication with classmates on certain topics, therefore increasing our communication skills. I added in the “Maps” tab to show what an interesting assignment that was; it was so satisfying seeing the embedded maps on my blog when I did that assignment.
What I loved the most during this semester was the fact that our research revolved around schools. I work at a school and loved learning more about enrollment numbers as well as teacher retention rates. I even searched for the school I work at on MiSchoolData! It was interesting to see the rates of my school. It felt so sneaky to do!
