During my Winter 2024 semester in Journalism, I learned the skills and tools it takes to research data, write blogs, and embed that data in a creative multimedia way. I started the course by choosing to research Wayne-Westland Community School District. I learned about their school board and dived deep into their district data regarding enrollment numbers and student-to-teacher ratio. Features, like the compare tool, allowed me to compare the statewide numbers with my district. MISchoolData is a tool I will be sure to use as I continue my research in Psychology.
We learned how to embed podcasts, maps, and social media posts. We blogged stories about our districts and added other media sources to help tell a good story. The guest speakers were the highlight in my timeline because we spoke to journalists and editors who gave us tips on how to be successful journalists and interviewers.
