The ability to read is one of the most valuable skills a person can have, but it can also be the most difficult to learn, especially for children who think reading is boring. Making reading fun for kids is the best way to help them fall in love with books, which is what some schools that are part of the Wayne-Westland School District are trying to do on their social media.
Hamilton Elementary School posts storytimes on their Instagram every week for students who want to listen or read along. Families may request for Mrs. Swanson, the narrator, to read their favorite stories.
Similar to Hamilton, Graham Elementary School uploads read along storytime videos to YouTube. Each video is narrated by a different staff member. The video above is narrated by Lisa Sheppard, the school’s principal.
Graham Elementary School also celebrated National Reading Month by giving students fun reading activities and allowing them to dress up. The school listed the dress up days on Facebook.
The Wayne-Westland Community Schools’ main Instagram page encouraged students to read over Winter break by giving them a fun reading challenge.
