According to the school district’s website, a gun safety forum was held in April of 2023 at West Bloomfield Middle School as a way to inform the community about the importance of gun safety.
In an effort to raise awareness, important statistics along with suggestions and methods for keeping children safe were shared by figures of the community, including the Oakland County prosecutor, Karen McDonald, and the chief of police, Michael Patton.
In the Facebook group “Bloomfield Hills Parents for Safe Schools,” there are multiple posts from parents of the community advocating for gun safety and calling out previous prominent figures of the community for posts they deemed as insensitive.
A resolution was passed in March of 2022 in support of gun safety, and a campaign known as “Be SMART” was launched by members of the West Bloomfield community to highlight the adult’s role in gun safety.
