Farmington school districts have decided for the new school year 2023-2024 they will eliminate the fees for Pay2Play in their schools. UpDate_back-to-school_2023.pdf (farmington.k12.mi.us)
Pay2Play is a fee charged to families whose kids are in any athletic sport or extracurricular event after school. Kids playing football, basketball, cheerleading, gymnastics, soccer, etc. They have to pay 2Play in these events.
If you have more than one child in these events it can become costly very fast, or if you have a child in multiple events, you too have to Pay2Play for each event with a cap of $700 for the year.
By eliminating the fees families can afford to pay for the lesser fees of uniforms and help with fundraisers for the teams. This will also allow more kids to participate in sports and events now that families do not have to Pay2Play.
Farmington is in the top 20% of school districts that families want to send their kids to. Eliminating the Pay2Play program has parents sharing the joy on the schools Facebook page. This could be a start to other communities following Farmington’s lead, giving kids in all communities the opportunity to join in athletics.
